More about the cats!
Character
Abyssinian cats are quiet, intelligent and curious, they are loyal and love the company of people, they are attached to their families, even to a dog! They love space and are active and are good climbers – these cats will love a garden with lots of trees and they like to perch somewhere high up. Playful, but in moderation, so there is no frenzy
Health
Abyssinian cats can suffer from an inherited condition called pyruvate kinase deficiency, which can cause anemia. There is a reliable test for this disease, so prospective owners should check with breeders to see if their cats have been tested for the disease. In some countries, there is an eye disease called progressive retinal atrophy, which causes gradual blindness, so it is worth checking with breeders about this problem as well.
Diet
When it comes to food, each cat is special, each has particular likes, dislikes, and needs. However, cats are carnivores, and each cat needs 41 different specific nutrients from its diet. The ratio of these nutrients depends on age, lifestyle and overall health, so it’s no wonder that a growing, energetic kitten needs a different mix of nutrients than a slower, older cat. Other issues to consider are feeding the right amount of food to maintain excellent body condition – this requires following feeding recommendations and providing wet and dry food that is prepared and selected to suit individual tastes.
Supervision
Abyssinian cats are easy to care for. They like to be brushed or combed, and if you want the coat to be really “professionally” groomed and shiny, you can buff it by gently brushing it with a damp chamois cloth to make the coat shine. Like all cats, pets of this breed need regular vaccinations, deworming and annual health checks.
